Biography
Prior to joining Durham Law School, Katya worked at PETA UK and Compassion in World Farming with her work focusing on sustainable food policy in the UK and EU. She frequently undertakes both freelance work and pro bono work for organisations advancing animal protection, which have included Communities Against Factory Farming, Global Animal Law GAL Association, the Environmental Law Foundation, ALDF, and PETA-Deutschland. She was recently a Visiting Research Fellow (remote) at the Center for Animal Rights and Environment, Zurich. Katya also teaches classes at City, University of London.
Katya holds a degree in Music from the University of Oxford, completing the Graduate Diploma in Law and Bar Course at City, University of London, supported by major scholarships of The Honourable Society of Gray's Inn. She subsequently studied Animal Law at the Center for Animal Law Studies (USA).
Research
Katya's research interests are broad, spanning the breadth of animal protection. She is particularly interested in the legal structures underpinning the financing of intensive farming, with her current research focusing on the scope for a protein transition under WTO rules.
