Steve Chivasa (Associate Prof, Biosciences) was recently invited by the British Embassy in Harare, Zimbabwe, to present at a high-level event held at the Ambassador’s residence on 25 Sept 2025.
The event coincided with the visit of Professor Dame Angela MacLean, the Chief Scientific Advisor to the UK government, who was in Zimbabwe to review the progress of UK-funded projects helping communities adapt to climate change.
As a member of the plenary panel, Steve delivered a presentation on his team’s cowpea and soil microbiome project. The project is funded by the Royal Society, Innovate UK, and the Toni Slabas Fund. The research is now yielding exciting, clear results that pave the way for developing a microbe-based technology to safeguard drought-sensitive crops.
