On behalf of the Department and all my colleagues, welcome to Durham, where we hope you will spend three enjoyable and rewarding years, not only in the study of English Literature, but also taking advantage of all the opportunities university life has to offer.
Professor Peter GarrattHead of Department
Studying English at Durham so far has been nothing short of fantastic! The department has helped guide me to reach my full potential and produce my best work. Induction week is a great way to get a glance into your future life at Durham. It's so useful to meet your course mates (and potential future friends) and understand what opportunities are coming your way. My advice is to make the most of every opportunity! University is a place filled with endless possibilities and the best time to explore and learn about your interests and passions - join the society you never thought you’d join, and read the books you didn't expect to love! I wish you all the best of luck, and welcome to Durham!
Your induction pack, emailed in mid-August, provides lots of information about your programme and English Studies modules.
Please enrol and then register for the optional modules you wish to study using the links shown below. English Studies students should register for their modules on Monday 1st September 2025.
If you have any queries, please email us via english.studies@durham.ac.uk and we will be happy to help.
The Timetable has been designed so College events don’t clash with any of your academic departmental events, but offer you lots of opportunities to meet your fellow Freshers, find your way around and settle into student life.
